COVID-Related Protocols for Games:
- Pre-Screening: We ask that all those entering the Civic Center (players, coaches, and spectators) do their own screening at home and anyone showing signs or symptoms of COVID-19 must not enter the Civic Center. For detailed guidance on home screening, go to www.cdc.gov/screening.
- Masks: All who enter the Civic Center gym for youth basketball games MUST wear a mask. This includes all players, coaches, referees, and spectators. Coaches and spectators must wear masks AT ALL TIMES. Players may remove their mask ONLY when they are on the court and must wear masks on the bench and at all other times.
- Physical Distancing: The recommended 6’ of distancing between households is required in all areas of the Civic Center.
- Drinking Fountains: Are not available. Players should bring their own personal water bottles.
- Pre and Post-Game: It is recommended that players not arrive until 10 minutes prior to their game. There will be no post-game handshake lines. Players, coaches, and spectators should exit the north gym doors immediately following their game.
- Note: These protocols and guidelines may be adjusted during the season if necessary.
The mission of all Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sport programs is to promote a fun, yet challenging environment in which participants are introduced to and taught the basics of a given sport. The program is strictly recreational in nature and emphasizes equal opportunity for involvement and participation.

An online registration option will not be made available. Payment must be made by check only. Once received, all registrations will be processed, however payments will be temporarily held and then deposited when the season has started.
COVID-Related Waiver for Minors
All participants must have a completed 'Minor Waiver & Indemnification Form' on file with WP&R prior to participating in the program. Our Other Basketball Leagues
Due to limited gym availability, we are unable to offer our 5th & 6th grade leagues during the same season as the 3rd & 4th grade leagues as we normally would. If your child is interested in participating in our 5th & 6th grade program starting in January, please contact Bob Schmidt directly via email by clicking here. Additionally, information about our 1st & 2nd grade basketball program will be released in January on our website.
OUT-OF-TOWN TEAMS OR CLUB ORGANIZATIONS - ROSTERS: All kids in each community and school are able to play on your team. If a child is interested and not asked, WP&R reserves the right to place them on your roster if not enough children remain to create another team from the community/school.
OUT-OF-TOWN TEAMS OR CLUB ORGANIZATIONS - DISCOUNT: Any organization that can agree to the above and also agree to follow the uniform policy below is eligible to receive a $10 discount per player. All players on your team must be paid with ONE check! Coaches are to gather all registrations, staple together, and mail/drop off forms in an envelope with full payment to Wahoo Parks and Rec Attn: Bob Schmidt, 310 North Linden Wahoo NE 68066.
MULTIPLE TEAM DISCOUNT: Any community and/or club organization that is sponsoring three or more teams should contact Bob Schmidt for a multiple team discount rate. Communities and clubs with multiple teams must divide those team rosters as evenly as possible via grade and skill (unless approved otherwise).
All players must wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles. Basketballs will be provided.
Youth participating in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports are required to wear WP&R approved uniforms (primarily blue/red Wahoo Parks and Rec shirts). Community teams and organizations will need to have a uniform shirt approved by the league director.
Team rosters are formed via school affiliation and by league director. All rosters, including out of town rosters, must be approved by Bob Schmidt. Parents may request their son/daughter be placed on a team with one other child for carpooling purposes. The request must be made by both parties (not all requests may be honored). This information needs to be indicated on the registration form. Once teams are formed, coaches are responsible for contacting players on their rosters to set up practices and distribute information.
Wahoo Parks and Recreation utilizes volunteer coaches for all youth sport programs. All head coaches are required to attend the coaches meeting or meet with the league director. Instruction on general coaching philosophy and principles as well as sport specific information will be discussed.
League schedules will be formed October 22nd and will be available on our website or at the Civic Center.
Participants and their parents/guardians should be aware that there is a risk of injury during participation in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports due to the inherent nature of the activities. Individuals participate in Parks and Recreation youth sports programs at their own risk.
In compliance with the Nebraska Concussion Awareness Act (LB 260), the Wahoo Parks and Recreation Department has adopted a policy regarding concussions, head injury, and concussed athletes. Coaches and parents should familiarize themselves with the policy. Click here to view and download the policy.
Coaches, players, and parents should also visit the DHHS concussion page to view information regarding concussions including approved training, videos, fact sheets, and other resources. Visit here for more information.
Refunds will only be approved if a child is unable to play due to injury. Any requests for refunds should be directed to Bob Schmidt.
