The program is strictly recreational in nature and emphasizes equal opportunity for involvement and participation.

Program Format
2nd Grade, 3rd & 4th Grade, and 5th & 6th Grade leagues will be offered. All league matches will be played on Saturdays (primarily AM) and Monday evenings if needed (only Wahoo, RC, or Mead teams would be scheduled for Monday nights). League play will begin mid/late August. All teams will play a round robin schedule and are guaranteed a minimum of six matches. All matches are played 6 vs. 6. All children receive equal playing time. Doubleheaders will likely be scheduled using Wahoo, Mead, or other area school gyms to reduce travel time and help avoid schedule conflicts. If you are a coach and a specific date needs to be avoided please note this on your child's registration form.
Rosters
Wahoo team rosters are formed via school affiliation (if possible) with the intent of forming even teams. Parents may request their child be placed on a team with one other child for legitimate carpooling purposes. Some car pooling requests may not occur. This information needs to be indicated on the registration form (no exceptions). Once teams are formed, coaches are responsible for contacting players on their rosters to set up practices and distribute information. Community teams and organizations need to form even teams as well. All rosters are subject to league director approval.
Out-of-Town Teams and/or Club Organizations - Roster Policy
All kids in each community and school are able to play on your team. If a child is interested and not asked, WP&R reserves the right to place them on your roster if not enough children remain to create another team from the community/school. Communities and organizations with multiple teams must divide those team rosters as evenly as possible via grade and skill (unless otherwise approved).
Out-of-Town Teams and/or Club Organizations - Group Discount
Any organization that agrees to the roster policy (above) and follows the uniform policy (below) while also sponsoring three or more teams is eligible to receive a $10 discount per player. All player registrations on your teams must be paid with one check! Organizations should collect all registration forms and mail/drop off forms in an envelope with full payment to: Wahoo Parks and Recreation, Attn: Bob Schmidt, 310 N. Linden, Wahoo, NE 68066.
Equipment
All players must wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles. Volleyballs are provided. Kneepads are recommended.
Uniforms
Youth participating in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports are required to wear WP&R approved uniform t-shirts (primarily the blue & red WP&R shirts). Community teams and organizations will need to wear a shirt approved via Bob Schmidt.
Coaches
Wahoo Parks and Recreation utilizes volunteer coaches for all youth sport programs. All coaches selected by WP&R for teams formed by WP&R are subject to a mandatory background check. Out-of-town teams or teams from club organizations will be responsible for performing background checks for their respective coaches.
Schedules
An announcement regarding schedules will be posted by August 12th on this web page.
Refunds
Refunds will only be issued if a child is unable to play due to injury. Any requests for refunds should be directed to Bob Schmidt.
Miscellaneous
Participants and their parents/guardians should be aware that there is a risk of injury during participation in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports due to the inherent nature of the activities. Individuals participate in Parks and Recreation youth sports programs at their own risk.
Concussion Policy
In compliance with the Nebraska Concussion Awareness Act (LB 260), the Wahoo Parks and Recreation Department has adopted a policy regarding concussions, head injury, and concussed athletes. Coaches and parents should familiarize themselves with the policy. Click here to view and download the policy.
Coaches, players, and parents should also visit the DHHS concussion page to view information regarding concussions including approved training, videos, fact sheets, and other resources. Visit here for more information.

The Parks and Recreation Department offers an After School Program as a convenient service to parents with elementary-age children. The program provides children in kindergarten through fifth grade a structured, supervised setting after the school day is complete. The After School Program is available for both Civic Center members and non-members.
Program Objective
To provide a positive, enriching experience for children in the hours after school while in a safe, structured, and supervised environment. Children in grades K-5 at Wahoo Elementary, St. Wenceslaus, St. John's, and Mead are eligible to register for the program.
Program Format
Weekly activities of the program include swimming, movies, crafts, and organized game days. There is snack time at the beginning of each afternoon when the children first arrive from school. Children may bring a snack. Snacks are not provided. There is a snack and beverage machine available in the game room for children that bring money to buy those items. Children are also given an opportunity to complete homework as necessary.
Enrollment
Registration is underway! In addition to the registration form, parents need to complete the Parental Consent/Medical Authorization Form and an ACH Authorization Form for the automatic payments each month. All forms are available to be downloaded below:
Parental Consent & Medical Authorization Form
A waiting list will be maintained once the program has filled. A non-refundable deposit equaling the appropriate "partial week" fee (below) must be paid at the time of enrollment. The deposit will be applied towards your first week's payment.
Starting Date
The program will begin the first day of school and is held Monday through Friday with the exception of holidays and any day school is not in session. The program also accommodates early school dismissals** (see below). If there is a scheduled early dismissal or an early dismissal due to inclement weather, the program will begin at the time of early dismissal.
Hours of Operation
School dismissal (including early dismissal) until 6:00pm. A late pick-up fee of $5 for each 5 minutes late will be assessed to parents that pick up participants after 6pm.
Location
The primary location for the program will be the Civic Center meeting room. Participants will also utilize other activity areas of the Civic Center including the gym, pool, game room, and racquetball courts. In addition, participants may also visit Smith Park and the playground.
Fee Structure
The fee structure for 2022-2023 will be as follows:
Member | Non-Member | |
Full School Week (3-5 days): | $32/week per child | $42/week per child |
Partial School Week (2 days or less): | $27/week per child | $37/week per child |
Payment is expected for every week of the program (regardless of whether your child attends or not) unless a two week notice is given informing Bob Schmidt of the week(s) your child will not attend. Automatic payments will be processed on (or around) the 15th of each month. Any questions concerning the automatic payment procedures should be directed to Cindy at (402) 443-4174.
Non-Attendance
Please notify the Civic Center front desk prior to school dismissal if your child will not be attending the program that day. To "hold your spot" in the program, the weekly fees must still be paid (regardless of attendance) unless prior approval from the Recreation Superintendent is granted.
Pick-Up Procedure
Only parents and those authorized by parents, in writing at the time of registration, are allowed to pick up children. Parents may designate additional escorts by submitting written authorization or placing a phone call on the given day to the After School Coordinator as necessary. These procedures will be strictly enforced. Parents/guardians also must notify the After School Coordinator when their child will be absent (see above).
Medication/Illness/Injury
Medication will only be dispensed with written consent and instructions from the parent. Any program participant that becomes ill during the program will need to be picked up immediately. In the event of injury, staff will perform the appropriate first aid measures including calling 911 and arranging transportation to the hospital if necessary.
Student Conduct
All students enrolled are expected to show respect, follow the rules of the program, and display acceptable behavior. The After School Coordinator will notify parents of inappropriate behavior. If gross misbehavior or a repeated violation of the rules occurs, parents will be required to withdraw their child from the program.
Transportation to the Program
Traditionally, Wahoo Public and Mead students have been dropped off the bus at the Civic Center, while St. Wenceslaus students walk from the school with a WP&R staff member. WP&R does not provide transportation services.
**Early Dismissals
If 5 or more students are enrolled from your child's school, after school care will be provided as indicated. Otherwise, we will use the WPS calendar.
