Program Philosophy
The mission of all Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sport programs is to promote a fun, yet challenging environment in which participants are introduced to and taught the basics of a given sport. The program is strictly recreational in nature and emphasizes equal opportunity for involvement and participation.

Now through October 6th. All registrations received after the deadline will incur a $10 late fee and will only be accepted 'as needed'.

Program Format
Teams will begin practicing approximately three weeks before the first game with a goal of 4-6 practices prior to the season starting and subsequent weekly practices. Games are played on Saturday’s beginning at 8am with most games played in the morning. Teams will be scheduled for a total of six games. Game days are: 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12.5, 12/12, and 12/19. If specific team needs/requests or weather requires modifications we will utilize weeknights and/or doubleheaders. Games will not be played on Thanksgiving weekend. Games will be held primarily at the Wahoo Civic Center. The girls will play on 9' rims and the boys will play on 10’ rims.
**New This Year**
2nd Graders have an opportunity to play in this traditional basketball league. Note: We are not anticipating many 4th graders in the league. 2nd graders that register should know the basics of the game. For those 2nd graders who are more novice, it is recommended they register for the 1st & 2nd grade clinic that is held in January (registration will begin in November).
OUT-OF-TOWN PLAYERS: We are not anticipating many (if any) out of town teams with the restructured format. If you are from a neighboring community/school and would like to play, you will be placed on a Wahoo community/WP&R formed team. If you are a coach and would like to sign up a team from your neighboring community/school please email Bob Schmidt here.
ST. WENC/JOHN'S: At the time of the release of this information, Cavalry Basketball (St. Wenc/St. John's students) is anticipating having some of its players also participate in this league. If you are from St. Wenc/St. John's and your preference is to play with Cavalry Basketball, please visit with Cavalry Basketball and/or Bob Schmidt prior to registering. If you are from St. Wenc/St. John's and you would prefer being placed on a WP&R formed team, you may do so simply by registering through us online or in-person.
Equipment
All players must wear tennis shoes with non-marking soles. Basketballs will be provided.
Uniforms
Youth participating in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports are required to wear WP&R approved uniforms (primarily blue/red Wahoo Parks and Rec shirts). Community teams and organizations will need to have a uniform shirt approved by the league director which will include the WP&R logo.
Rosters
Parents may request their son/daughter be placed on a team with one other child for carpooling purposes. The request must be made by both parties. Situations where Player A requests to be with Player B...and Player B requests to be with Player C...with Player C registering to be with Player A will simply result in no request being honored. Valid requests need to be indicated at the time of registration. Once teams are formed, coaches are responsible for contacting players on their rosters to set up practices and distribute information.
Coaches
Wahoo Parks and Recreation utilizes volunteer coaches for all youth sport programs. All coaches selected by WP&R for teams formed by WP&R are subject to a mandatory background check. Out-of-town teams or teams from club organizations will be responsible for performing background checks for their respective coaches.
Schedules
League schedules will be posted on this page by October 29th and will also be available at the Civic Center.
Miscellaneous
Participants and their parents/guardians should be aware that there is a risk of injury during participation in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports due to the inherent nature of the activities. Individuals participate in Parks and Recreation youth sports programs at their own risk.
Concussion Policy
In compliance with the Nebraska Concussion Awareness Act (LB 260), the Wahoo Parks and Recreation Department has adopted a policy regarding concussions, head injury, and concussed athletes. Coaches and parents should familiarize themselves with the policy. Click here to view and download the policy.
Coaches, players, and parents should also visit the DHHS concussion page to view information regarding concussions including approved training, videos, fact sheets, and other resources. Visit here for more information.
