Program Philosophy
The mission of all Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports programs is to promote a fun, yet challenging environment in which participants are introduced to and taught the basics of a given sport. The program is strictly recreational in nature and emphasizes equal opportunity for involvement and participation.
Registration Period
Now through April 14th. Any registrations received after April 14th will incur a $10 late fee. No registrations accepted after April 21st without prior approval from Bob Schmidt.

Leagues
The player's current grade level determines the league they are eligible to participate. Pre-K (enrolled in 2026-27 Kindergarten class) and Kindergartners play T-Ball. Current 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders play Coach-Pitch.
Program Format
Teams will play a six-game, round robin schedule. Practices begin in early May with games beginning the week after Memorial Day weekend. Games generally conclude by the end of June. All games are played at Hackberry Park. Mondays and Wednesdays will be the primary game days with Tuesday and Thursday games if needed. Please note the information below about team formation along with coach and player requests.
Girl's T-Ball Coach-Pitch
Grades: **Pre-K and Kindergarten 1st, 2nd, 3rd
Game Times: 5:30/6:30/7:30 5:30/6:30/7:30
(**Pre-K = Must be enrolled in 2027-27 Kindergarten class)
Equipment
Each team is provided bats and balls for practices and games. All players will need to provide their own batting helmet, softball glove, pants, and hat. While shorts are acceptable, pants are recommended given the abrasive nature of the playing surface. Metal cleats are not allowed. Tennis shoes or shoes with soft rubber or molded cleats may be worn. Please note: All batting helmets used by players participating in coach-pitch must have a face mask.
Uniforms
Youth participating in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports need to have two uniform t-shirts, one red and one blue (note policy below for Out-of-Town teams). The playing schedule dictates which color shirt to wear for each game. These shirts are used for all youth sport programs and are available in a variety of youth and adult sizes and can be purchased at the Civic Center for $8 each.
Coach Requests
Coaches can request ONE assistant/co-coach to coach with. If there is a situation where A requests to be with B, and C requests to be with B as well, the first coach registered will be who coach B is with, regardless of Coach B's desires (communicate with one another before registering).
Team Formation
See the example below describing how teams are formed:
60 players are registered. 6 teams with 10 players each will be formed. The first 6 volunteer head coaches registered will be assigned to coach teams in the order they registered. Once coaches' kids are removed from the pool of players to be assigned to teams, the remaining players will be assigned to team in the order they registered.
Out-of-Town Teams - Rosters All kids in each community and school are able to play on your team. If a child is interested and not asked, WP&R reserves the right to place them on your roster if not enough children remain to create another team from the community/school.
Coaches
Wahoo Parks and Recreation utilizes volunteer coaches for all youth sport programs. Instruction on general coaching philosophy and principles as well as sport-specific information will be discussed with league director via email. All head coaches will be subject to a background check.
Schedules
Playing schedules will be available at the Civic Center and posted on this website.
Inclement Weather & Cancellations
In the event of inclement weather and/or questionable field conditions, please call the WP&R Hotline at (402) 443-4500. The hotline will be updated with an automated message at least 45 minutes prior to games if games are canceled. Rescheduled game times will be posted online.
Miscellaneous
Participants and their parents/guardians should be aware that there is a risk of injury during participation in Wahoo Parks and Recreation youth sports due to the inherent nature of the activities. Individuals participate in Parks and Recreation youth sports at their own risk.
Concussion Policy
In compliance with the Nebraska Concussion Awareness Act (LB 260), the Wahoo Parks and Recreation Department has adopted a policy regarding concussions, head injury, and concussed athletes. Coaches and parents should familiarize themselves with the policy. Click here to view and download the policy.
